Well, a Jewish Prime Minister who converted to Christianity as a child, yes.Originally posted by Ganpati's Goonerz--AFC's Aboriginal Fertility Cult View PostYup. All I was trying to do was show that while your modern nation state theory could be made to conveniently fit Germany, it doesn't explain Dreyfus and France.
The difference with here though is that they were chucked out in what, the 12th or 13th century, and didn't come back until Cromwell.
By which time we had those dastardly Papists as our "others". We were happy to have a Jewish Prime Minister in the mid to late Victorian era. We'd have never had a Catholic.

Doesn't the fact that he was an excellent songwriter hold any water with you P? Just because his lyrics are also excellent poetry doesn't mean they aren't songs surely? If the issue is that you just don't like him as an artist then you and I will have a problem.Originally posted by Peter View PostIf you describe Leonard Cohen as a 'songwriter' again, we are going to have a problem.....

Puzzles me too Rich. Maybe it's because they are so irrefutably bloody clever.Originally posted by Rich View PostI have never really understood what the Jews have done wrong. Why are they persecuted by so many?
They seem to largely mind their own business and share strong western values.
Weird.

He was a poet, a songwriter, a lover..... he was everything. My north, my south, my east and west.Originally posted by Herbert Augustus Chapman View PostDoesn't the fact that he was an excellent songwriter hold any water with you P? To hear him dismissed as merely a songwriter.... that cannot stand unchallenged.
