?40m for the Ox was blinding business, although I didn't think it was at the time.Originally posted by Peter View PostWe got a good price for RVP given the circumstances. And Adebayor, and Nasri. We did quite well out of City for a while......
And sometimes the situation ****s you. One of the best decisions we made (and I am SURE you will agree) was withdrawing that gigantic contract for Ramsey and letting him leave for nothing. Brave, but saved us a fortune.

I did. I thought that was an iffy signing for Liverpool. He was just too injury prone and he lacked the responsibility to play centrally where his skill set was best suited.Originally posted by PSRB View Post?40m for the Ox was blinding business, although I didn't think it was at the time.

Not many do. If he did, we'd have many suitors willing to pay 70m+. He played against Real, the CL holders, home and away and the only sniff they got was from a Big Willy cock up. Rodrygo, Vinicius, Bellingham, Mbappe. Had them all in his pockets for both legs. While Ascensio and Rudiger had five put past them with MnM as our CF.Originally posted by Peter View PostThere is something about him..... I noticed it a few times. You know the way big Per had this habit of magically appearing beneath any ball in the box? Kiwior doesn't have that. Sometimes he can look a little lost, a little hesitant.
The only joy Gyokeres got against us when he played us in the CL was when he outmuscled Kiwior late on. He got nothing against the other guys.
So, as good as he is, he isn't dominant. Doesn't have the personality or aggression of a Gabriel or the sheer groove and grace of a Saliba.
Don't remember him putting a foot wrong against PSG in the semis.
I like him, he gave us his all and he deserves to be playing week in, week out for a top club. I just think he's worth more than we're asking for. When he got the odd game he'd often make one mistake per 90 and require Willy to bail him out. But when he got a run in the team, he played better and better.
We better have a sell on clause cos I could see him going to a big club in 2-3 years.
If we still had Mustafi, Sok and Luiz, I'd happily pay 40m for him.

Gnabry who I knew was better than the Ox from the first time he took the field.Originally posted by WES View PostNketiah for 30mil was pretty good business. And I notice ESR is struggling to get in the Fulham side, didn't we get 25mil+ for him?
Calm down, Pedro.
And on a related topic, can anyone think of a player we sold for a modest amount that became anything other than very average?

With RVP, AW said he knew he only had 18 months left at the top level. Selling him to the Mancs gave them a title allowing Fergie to retire and they've never recovered from that.Originally posted by WES View PostI was thinking more a younger players. RVP was almost 30 when we sold him and we had no choice, reasonable money for a player of that age as well.
It seems most times we sell a young player there is hand wringing about how much we got and how good they might become but we seem to get these decisions right.
Look at Peter's list. Nelson, Nketiah and ESR will never be anything more than average, the three that stayed are all stars or going to be, possible exception of Nwaneri which is still a bit of an open question.
But I can't believe you don't rate Ethan. He was 17-18 last season and scored more both in the Prem and in total than Odin did in fewer games.
If we didn't have B, MLS and Dowman and hadn't signed Eze we'd be demanding he started every week. We see him as the new Chippy or Rocky. Please stop thinking he's Rambo. He's another level. 2 goals against Leeds came from what he did. Please give the guy a break, I think he'll be a world class player for us and I hope he spends his entire career with us like Big Tone did. And I hope he wins us even more.

Ulgan, my mate in the Turkish offie on Queensbridge Road couldn't believe we got that much for Ox. {Of the four in the offie I chatted with one was Gala, one was Fener and 2 were Besiktas, so I started supporting the latter. And they won the league the following year. After a couple of years of knowing them the Gala won asked why I didn't like his team. I said the 2000 Uefa final and he said fair play, I get it now.}Originally posted by PSRB View Post?40m for the Ox was blinding business, although I didn't think it was at the time.

I agree with you. And what I said about hesitancy and dominance, that comes with game time. I like him and I think he is worth more than we are selling him for. But I can also see what Arteta prefers in the new guy and I guess he is more interested in strengthening the squad than worrying over a few million here and there.Originally posted by Ganpati's Goonerz--AFC's Aboriginal Fertility Cult View PostNot many do. Well it's up to 29m with the loan fee thrown in. We also got 34m pounds sterling for Iwobi.Originally posted by Peter View PostObligation to buy for 17 million euros.... plus add ons.
We are ****ing **** at selling players........
We have to assume this means the deal for the lad from Leverkusen is going through....

I'd forgotten about Iwobi. I read the other day that Anelka is still our second most expensive sale. Ox and Iwobi both went for more. And Cesc, no?Originally posted by Rich View PostWell it's up to 29m with the loan fee thrown in. We also got 34m pounds sterling for Iwobi.
Getting more for Ox and Iwobi than Cesc is a joke. Iwobi cost what we sold Titi and Paddy for combined.
Selling Yakob for less than we paid for Mustafi is a joke. When he's proved that with a run of games, he doesn't look out of place in a team challenging for both the PL and the CL.
It will be interesting to see what Yakob's release clause is at his new club. Bound to be at least 50 mil, cos if he plays really well for 2 seasons, a 27 year old ball playing CH who looks at home in the CL knockouts is worth that amount at least.
