Gordon Brown was arguably the last political heavyweight Britain has produced. Huge intellect, great instincts. He just didnt come across as nice.

These days our politicians are the idiot sons and daughters who couldnt earn a living in the real world.

There were rumours that he kept a gaggle of limbless orphans chained up in his cellar so he could violate them at will. That said a friend of mine shared a flat with him in Edinburgh when they were both early 20s and he told me that such rumours were utter bo**ocks and though Brown was "scarey intelligent" he was rather dull.

He was dull. Blair was good on the stage and in front of the camera. And he had a great touch on the big stuff (until Iraq).. But policy, direction, detail- that was all Brown.
