I agree, that is a problem.

But how did VAR not notice that there was no way that could be a natural leg movement and it was perfectly timed as a last cance foul to stop a goal?
My guess.... they saw it, thought about it and thought it wasnt a clear and obvious error. But they hate saying that because what it actually says is that you think it is a foul. You think the ref made an error, just not a clear and obvious one.

So instead of saying that, they make up some bull**** to try and convince you it wasnt a foul. And slowly you lose respect for referees.

Was it not once the case that the officials were charged with actually "managing" games and the players. Like the one the other night giving Jurien a talking to.

        We miss that.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

But it was a clear and obvious error, just like that lino who thought Gabby was offside when nicking Vik's goal but wasn't.

Not the lino's fault, it was tight and did look a bit iffy in real time.

You needed a slow-mo close up to see just how blatant it was.

Do you think the fact that if it was a foul, it would have to be a red scared them? Even if we miss the pen the Chavs aren't winning with ten.

Didn't want the game to be all about their decision.

Which would be strange cos they normally want to be the stars of the show.

We've all been spoiled by years of strikers who could control a football.

            I blame Alan Smith

The Overlap was terrific today, with Paul Merson.

It certainly wouldn't have been a red card. A yellow, probably.

Nobody can actually explain what constitutes a clear and obvious error. I think they felt that was a 'seen them given' rather than a 'nailed on'.

The fact that Gary Neville thought it was a penalty (or feared might actually be a better word) tells you something.

It was a blatant pen and it was a deliberate foul to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity.

If our lad had done that I'd have both expected a pen and been fuming.

cf Ricky C's shirt pull giving away a pen the other week, or Cesc's handball in the wall in the NLD.

He clipped his heels to bring him down. The fact that the defender did it from the floor is irrelevant.

Again, i think if it's a pen, which it is, it has to be a red and the ref bottled it as the game may have been scrappy but there was still all to play for and they didn't want to kill the "excitement" for a pen like that when they had the "but he won the ball and the leg raise COULD have been accidental" get out.

That was a pen. BW does that and it gets given every time.

It isnt a clear goalscoring opportunity. He's heading away from goal and there is a defender inside him. Never a red card.
