    But not this week

We've seen plenty of that sort of thing ourselves over the years; domination, missed chances leading to frustration and yellow and red cards.

People have got to take their chances, especially in the first half of games and especially at home.

They really should have signed a striker by now regardless of the Isak situation. That's on them, not him.

They tried to get Etitike and also have had a bid for some PL lad {Brentford?????} turned down.

I know we've been lucky this summer - Zubi, Norgy and Eze all came with the selling clubs' blessings and we did a deal that made all happy. Even the Vik thing was just the chairman trying to squeeze a few more quid out of add-ons when it was clear there was no bidding war. We all knew it would happen for roughly that figure.

But the Isak thing was NUFC saying they want 150m. Is he worth that? Dunno. But if they're serious, they won't sell him to the Scousers for 110m. Not after they've gazumped them for Etitike.

I don't blame the Scousers. But in the Times comments, loads of Geordie fans all agree that after the Milk Cup win, Isak deliberately played badly to try to not qualify for the CL to make his sale easier.

Is this true or just fan conspiracies? Dunno cos I only watch us. I just report what I read.

My point was they needed a striker even if Isak was staying. They've had all summer, and had the Isak situation dragging on for ages.

It's tricky, isn't it. Buying another one could be, could've been misconstrued as well.

You buy a **** one, and then if Isak leaves you buy a better one. You can't rely on one striker. Even we don't do that...

Alan Smith missed just one match in '91.

Is it ok to throw stones after we've left a glass house we were in for a couple of years?

I know what you mean, but I feel we've been so lucky this summer that I don't want to jinx things by starting to feel high and mighty. Sort of goes against my Vedic faith - whether Buddhist compassion or Hindu Karma.

There but for the Grace of God go us, or somesuch.

Imagine the Sporting owner had played silly boogers and we walked away at the end and then Kai got injured.

We've spent more money in the last 3 summers than we have in my entire life. Can they afford to spend ?70m on a forward before they know if they're selling Isak or not? It's only in the last few years that we've been able to spent 50+ on squard players.

I don't know how rich they are compared to us, Scousers, City, Chavs etc.

Yes, decent away win, that. I suppose Isak will be back for our match at St James'.

Apparently their owners are worth a few quid. Not sure how that applies to the football club though.

It is not a question of feeling high and mighty. I am simply making the point that it isn't Isak's fault that they haven't signed another striker. They entered the window needing one and it shpuld he been an even higher priority once Isak started kicking off.

We shall see whether we have been lucky this summer over the next few months....... but at least some of that luck (Zubimendi) was result of long term planning.
