Great result, but that performance was terrible

I wouldn't have started Gyokeres, that's for sure (I had Havertz as fantasy captain because I thought MA would think the same), let him watch the first 60-70 minutes and see what the PL is all about. Zubi played well but you could see he was a yard off the pace required in the PL at the start.

Perhaps we overdid it with the travelling. Who knows. But certainly they all looked off the pace and their touch was missing. Gabriel wasn't at his best, although I know there have been some questions over his fitness.Originally posted by PSRB View PostI wouldn't have started Gyokeres, that's for sure (I had Havertz as fantasy captain because I thought MA would think the same), let him watch the first 60-70 minutes and see what the PL is all about. Some of the errors were astonishing, like the time the guy just walked through the entire defence.
Think I agree re Havertz, but I guess they felt Gyokeres was ready. He wasn't.
What I do like is Arteta coming out afterwards and basically saying we were pretty ****. I am ok as long as he knows it. The minute he starts taking the win and forgetting the performance, we are ****ed.
Behind the scenes, in private, he will have been really pissed off with that performance and they'll be hearing about it in training.
Could have done with Eze

For those that are interested he went through 3 players like they weren't there without actually doing anything to achieve it.Originally posted by Peter View PostPerhaps we overdid it with the travelling. Those three players were Zubi, Rice and Gabriel
Now that's a bad day at the office

Didn't we have Saliba come in a CB, allowing BW to play RB, add Zinny {from a EPL winning side} to come in and play the inverted LB MA had always wanted with it being something new for our opponents to worry about, have Partey in won of those runs of form when he looked like PV4 as opposed to those soi dissant 4/10 runs, have GX playing in a role that suited him for the only season of his carer and have a EPL winning new striker?Originally posted by Peter View PostIf that was the starter, I wouldn't hang around for the main. I'd be paying the bill and heading to the pub.
I am excusing Gyokeres because he clearly isnt up to speed yet. It is more concerning that the others aren't. They should be.
Remember the first season we finished second, when Jesus arrived? We looked good from the first game. We looked ready.
We didnt look anywhere near ready yesterday. And we are at Anfield in two weeks.....
Those changes might have had something to do with it. [Glass half full again.]

Doesn't explain why we were ready.
We are ****ing good side but hardly ever play like it. Sooner or later you have to ask why
