  • Great result, but that performance was terrible

    from start to finish.

I hope that is just a rusty start because otherwise I can't see us doing any better than last season.

So frustrating to see good players performing so poorly.

No one forward of Rice and Zubi was anything other than awful. I guess you have to give us credit for defending well.

Havertz is clearly a better player than Gyokeres who will be more useful when we play better, if you see what I mean.

And Saka winds me up at times. When it is clear that the ref is going to let them be physical, man up and be physical back. Don?t waste your time on your arse whining about it.

Still , 0-1 at Old Trafford

Sure, great win. But we can all see how poor the performance was. Against 80% of the league we would have lost today. Woeful.

All last season's bull**** and mistakes. I can't see any real reason to think it will improve. He's had one entire summer to rethink and we've come up with the same old **** again.

I?m not sure there were any tactical issues today that you could pin on Arteta. As you said, it was just good players playing really badly.

I?m not sure there are many conclusions to draw from that game other than we need our players to play better.

Well, let's be clear. In the second half we made no real attempt to get involved in the game. We sat deeper and deeper and trusted our back six to deal with stuff. Which they did, just about.

That is tactical. We were too open in the first half because every time we pushed players forward we gave the ball away. His answer, as always, was to stop pushing people forward.

First half was players underperforming. Second half was Arteta settling for 1-0.

Let's see what happens against Leeds but what worries me is Anfield. If we play like this there we are going to get hammered.

How do we feel about using Havertz on the left? I know that he looked much better than Gyokeres up front when he came on but Arteta will rightly give the swede a few games before he gets dropped.

Loathe to say it but Saka did well there when he put that chance in for Madueke that was very well defended. Playing him there would allow us to but Madueke in his natural position or use Nwaneri out there.

just need another 37 of those and we'll be dancing on the streets of holloway road. (might need less than that but I am not good at maths) :modd:

I am having this horrible feeling that our tactics are slowly destroying players, and that Odegaard has gone the same way as Martinelli.

He was soooooo ****ing bad at United, arguably worse than any of his awful performances last season.

The substitutions bemused me. Second half we were sitting deep and doing nothing. Saka was having arguably his worst ever game. He brings on Madueke for Martinelli. Defensively Madeueke was ****ing useless.

He brings Merino on for Rice and leaves Odegaard on......

I know Arteta is hard to read but I just cannot make sense of any of that.

And Havertz on the left. No, absolutely not.

First game of the season really couldn't give a monkeys how we win. Takes a few games to get in the swing.

One thing that naffs me off in the media were articles stating how "Manchester were the better team but lost" who gives a rats? Numerous times we are the better team and never have that headline.

I think the thing that is irritating most of us is the fact that we were ****, in very similar ways to last season.

I couldn't give a toss how United played or what they deserved.

We have a very, very tough start to the season and if we don't improve very quickly then we are out of the title race before it even starts. Liverpool, City, Newcastle. We wont get anything from any of those games playing like we did yesterday.

Based on what I saw yesterday, Havertz should start the next game. Gyokeres clearly isn't fully fit and doesn't have a clue how we press. No shame in it. But if he needs time, give it to him, instead of wasting ours.

Agreed on Gyokres. Odd that we moved the wingers inside, rather than having on them on touchlines as we usually do. Hopefully be a lot better vs Leeds.

Not sure what the plan was to cover Calafiori's frequent raids forward in the first half. Looks worse because United specifically targeted that area which was clearly a plan from the start.

Gyokeres looked clumsy and his touch was heavy. But the same could be said for more or less everyone. I am sure he will get better.

I honestly cannot remember Saka playing that badly. Normally he is quietly effective on his bad days. He was awful.

I suppose we (mainly me!) should all calm down and give them a chance. But that was a hugely worrying performance.

reminded me of the opening game last season v Wolves. Unconvincing.
Other clubs never came into my thoughts once I knew Arsenal wanted to sign me.
