Suddenly we have too many strikers.

    We're going to need them

Zubi plays higher up the pitch than I'd imagined. I thought he would be a sort of half centre-half but no.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

I think he and Rice will work well together. They can cover each other

Absolutely. They were already doing it, most confusing to watch.

Now, if Rice can teach the new bug to take corners we could really begin to get somewhere.

I mean, how difficult can it be. And Dec is a centre half by trade so is naturally dominant in the air.

Also he is a one hundred million pound superstar so it wounds both spirit and soul to see him taking corners; this bunk and balderdash needs to be stopped immediately. Otherwise one may be almost forced to wonder just what precisely everybody else is doing in training

Must be a fluke. He scored only 2 goals with his head over the last two seasons with Lisbon out of 41 headed attempts! Mind you I suspect our crosses are of a much higher quality than Lisbon's.

Remember when Titi started taking FKs and corners? Our main striker, who was tall and decent in the air, was further away from the box than anyone barring our goalie.

Jarring indeed, like later when Harry Kane did it for England.

Direct free kicks is fine, that makes sense; different matter entirely.

It's not a MAJOR niggle but I do like to niggle just for ****s and giggles.

Hopefully Dec can become a great FK taker like Titi was. I also don't see why B can't score them with his left. But I'd love us to score lots of FKs this season while also doing even better with corners. Tight defence and set piece goals. GG would have loved it.

Trouble is, you cant win the league relying on that. Not these days.

I want to see us dominating the ball, controlling the tempo and causing teams different problems. Tight at the back and set pieces is great at Anfield, or at Newcastle. But it can't be our weekly offering. Not if we want to actually win anything.

He was too busy charging his way past pub defenders from what I've seen.

                    Different league, literally

Nobody wants to actually rely on set pieces, but it does make excellent sense to be proficient, or even merely competent, at them (it's often necessary, not to mention nice, to remind Manchester United supporters that they actually won a European Cup final on corners. That is, after you've finished recalling the fact that they finish second far more often than we have )

One or two set piece goals out of five, say, is alright. Or are you saying we fail to dominate the ball, control the tempo and cause different problems so it seems like we are reliant on corners; the latter being a somehow negative consequence of the former?

This is fair. Just as well we play at Old Trafford soon

I suppose they've looked at the stats. You can prove anything with stats nowadays

I think I'm saying without the former, the latter is not much use. I love our brilliance at set pieces. I just don't want us relying on them.

That's what the new signings are for. Especially the Spanish lad. He looks wonderful, and it is making Liverpool fans furious

7% of direct free kicks resulting in goals - is the best season return in the Premier League, apparently.
Other clubs never came into my thoughts once I knew Arsenal wanted to sign me.
