Yes, although rarely where I live now. Really miss my club in Surrey.

Fantastic game; social, interesting, can be played to a ripe old age. I only wish I had more time for it. Also very addictive which can be a good or a bad thing.

I'd suggest taking a few basic lessons and then finding some people to play with. At some point you'll hit a few good shots, play a few good holes and the next thing you know you'll be addicted.

I was mentioning it casually in the office and a bloke who doesn't live that far away plays so will give it a try that way. used to go to the pitch and putt years ago and it was good fun

Second the lessons. I've had 10 over the past 18 months and it's transformed my game.

Spent a fortune on it before kids, now they're older and there's a few lads at work that have started playing (plus one new guy that plays off +3) I'm going to get back into it.

Seems like the sort of thing you have to devote some time to if you want to get even half way decent. Bit like snooker.

You should spend 50% of your practice time on your short game, Rich. I got that advice from a chap who played in the Open many years ago.

Handicap went down 3 strokes that summer just because I focused on chipping and putting more.

Yep, I've got a nice swing but just don't have the time to get my handicap down in the teens. I'd like to get to 18. Hoping the new lad can give me some pointers.

I'd agree with that. Becomes quite easy to get the ball *near* the green, quite quickly. It's the scrambling that transforms your shots per round.
Other clubs never came into my thoughts once I knew Arsenal wanted to sign me.

There's always excellent hare coursing on golf courses, if that helps. It's not cricket really but it does make a nice change from fallow fields.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."
