Agreed, very weird. Except to say that at least he's another body, and a forward, to boot.

People, my big brother, at least, seem disappointed that the signing wasn't The Glock (as we're required to call him) and we'll run out of money preventing us from getting a striker, if indeed we want another one. That's about the timing but who on earth knows how that works in football!

Then there's the Chelsea-thing. From a certain point of view, it makes perfect sense; they've got loads of money and they buy lots of decent players, many of whom they'll never need.

A discussion for another time is how the game has essentially normalised Financial Doping. I always thought FFP was all about making sure FIFA and UEFA got their cut of all the new money flooding into football, rather than fairplay for football itself

Some of them like Cech, William and Jorginhho had been very good players in their prime but by the time they reached us they were well on the slide. Others like Sideshow Bob and the Sterling loan were just bloody daft

Mad****a is a tricky winger but the fact he is surplus to their requirement should ring alarm bells. Even if he were an upgrade on Martinelli (which I question) we should not be spunking north of 50 million on him while quibbling over a few million on an elite striker which we desperately need.

We should be getting better fees for our outgoing players too. Ramsdale to Southampton ?18m plus add ins. Chelsea are flogging Petrovic to Bournemouth for a reported ?25m. If true, this is mental..

Surely he's Saka's backup? I have never seen him play on the left in my life.

I assumed we were targeting Eze or Rodrygo for that role, which brings us back to the fans rejection of Madueke. Overall, it?s better to have more options than fewer, given our propensity for long term injuries. He?s young and a decent enough player from what I?ve seen. I only question the personal motives for moving here, for a player approaching his prime, and appearing to all as a back up.
