"The simple things you see are all complicated" is apparently a good description of Zubimendi's genius in the DM role. The great Gilberto was the invisible wall, but with Zubi apparently the way that he can get the ball just outside our box with his back to goal and a coupe of attackers on his case and turn and burst past them in no space at all.

MLS does something similar at times. Having him invert next to Zubi could be great for us next year. With Dec in the box to box inside left role, hopefully our LW will have settled players at LB and IL for the first time since Granit and Zinny when Gabby M scored 15.

This summer is basically our third attempt to replace Granit and upgrade on Zinny. JT got injured after starting at LB in pre-season and that first game, and Kai basically moved from IL up to striker.

Last year we had Cala and MnM who both got injured. Now we have MLS and Dec with Zubi anchoring the MF.

Just hope Kai's back in time. I'd like to see MnM given a go in that role, as those goals he scored at the end of the season were mostly the sort MFs arriving late score, like Freddie in the good ol' days.

I also think Kai could play there now with a decent striker ahead of him. He was always winning duels but now he has the confidence to assist like a no.10 and finish like a striker.

2 of JT/BW/Cala aren't gonna start. 2 of MnM/Kai/New striker {Ganpati willing} won't start and atm we have Gabby and Leo going for the LW role, with Jeez to come back at some point and young Ethan coming through.

All fit and that's 7 options from the bench. Also this spare DM from Brentford we're trying to buy. {And Yacob at LCH dealt with Real perfectly well.} Maybe we can actually get some squad depth. If, Ganpati willing, they can all stay fit.

I for one hope he doesn't try that sort of thing too often. Everyone targeted Casemiro last season, until he cut it out, and even Thomas. Not just with two players neither; sometimes three or four as the reward for winning the ball back in that position is obviously enormous so it's worth the risk. One possibly two touches should be, better be, plenty.
