  • Tell you what's a good tune right now; Flower In A Hurricane.

From the new GTA game. Eighties/Miami Vice-tastic!

Not my kind of music, however, a very good song.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

I saw Duran Duran in Paris last night.

The Frenchies really do love the 80s. Dancing in the aisles from the 2nd song. Quite right, of course. A phenomenal decade for music was the 80s.

    And I was young

That decade created some of the worst music ever made. Apart from all the things I liked, obviously

Well that's true of every decade, Peter

I can even find the odd decent bit of non-Stones music in the 70s. Hvae to look hard but it's there

90% of the greatest music ever made was made between 1967 and 1976.

90% of the worst music made in my lifetime was made in the 80s.

          Percentages.

ok with the 67-76 dates, although 77-82 was dire

Nonsense on the 80s. Firstly, there has been virtually no decent music made in the last 25 years or so. Secondly, the 80s was f*cking ace, everyone I know loved the 80s music at the time and still does. Even young people adore 80s classics.

Well, i dont. Shoulder pads, synthesisers, drum machines, make up, sawn off guitars. A load of prancing Nancy boys. The sensible artists sat it out.

They even destroyed rock and roll until Guns n Roses saved us all. And the first two Black Crowes albums.

There were exceptions, obviously. The Cure, The Smiths, The Cult, Billy Bragg, The Waterboys, The Levellers, and some various odds and sods in indie music. But 80s chart music was abysmal. The worst of the worst.

Specials {Ghost Town was '81}, Stranglers {Golden Brown was '82} etc.

But then, as a part-time punk, I'd consider both of those bands as being part of the post-punk continuation {yes, including ska, given the punky-reggae party} yet WES says music ends in 1976.

I'd have loved to have been a punk {or a hippy} as much as a free raver. In many ways, the punk scene would have suited me more.

The greatest era of rock and roll ended with Hotel California (technically not released until early 77). Things changed after that.

I was too young for punk but I dabbled. Ended up skipping the british stuff and falling for the Ramones. Still love them
