  • Dominated possession while creating nuffink....

    For 80 mins.
    Score a deflected goal.
    Go into game management mode
Then cock up and almost concede twice.

    Bet P loved that.

    He didn't.

We didnt control the game but I can live with that. We are moving beyond suffocation mode and we are a long way from perfecting it.

And we tried to keep the ball in game management mode. It didnt work too well and we conceded chances. Again, i can live with it.

We are really seeing the effect of weakening our forward options. With Saka playing like this we are desperately weak in the wide areas.

And I think it is time to give Vik a few games. Havertz is not looking great.

I think we look better when we bring our best players on. TBF, Noni did the job today, but Bruno wins games from the bench and B and Kaiser looked tops when they came on with Ødin mid-week.

Also thinks results show MLS is underrated as a starter.

Madueke is our best option on the left. Eze is useless.

Problem is, we really need Madueke on the right. Can't keep picking Saka if he is going to perform like that. He was awful again.

Noni is now looking like a decent buy. For both wings. Confidence is growing. Has a route into the starting XI. Kicking on in his second season.

Maybe it's time for the young doctor to get out of his Tardis and dribble past the Daleks.

Eze is not a LW, he plays the exact same position on the left as Ode does on the right. I feel a bit sorry for him. Sellling Martinelli is the worst transfer decision since bringing in Sterling.

and I really hate the low block!!

The only way I can see Eze being effective on the elft is if he has Hincapie behind him. He at least looks to drive out wide. Eze and Calafiori just drives the whole thing inside.

I'm just not convinced that Eze is really effective anywhere. He drifts in and out of games, never a constant menace.

He's still got some credit in the bank for scoring 5 against the scum in 2 games but I know what you mean.

One of our goals this season was when Easy was in the inside left channel and he played it forward to Ricky C on the overlap where a winger would be and he cut it back for a goal.

The trouble is that on the right we had B, Ødin, BW and Kaiser all out wide or inside right while on the left we just had Easy being told to hug the touchline, Ricky C, as you say, more central, but no Dec or Bruno, both, especially Dec, drifting to the right more.

Ricky C at inside left plays it to Easy out wide and Ricky then moves more central meaning all Easy can do is knock it diagonally backwards to Big Gabby. He had nothing else on. That's what the problem is.

Only time our LW worked was GX's last season. He played as a pwoppa inside left, Zinny was inverted but at least out left and Jeez could move over that side, too.

Maybe that's why we look good with MLS.

Also, Quantum's advantage is that he is a pwoppa LW - he's not a RW or 10 playing out of position - and he can go both ways. But the extra advantage is that he can cut inside, drive horizontally across the pitch just outside the box and then play a horizontal pass. We got a couple of goals like that from Ødin where Kaiser played a dummy.

At least Noni's a winger and has been making chances from out there. But if Easy is told to stay wide but when he gets the ball there, the only pass he has on is to knock it backwards and inside to Big Gabby, that's not really his fault. The goal vs Lille was him being able to get central and onto the end of some work by our right-wing triangle.

It's true. When the ball goes to the left flank there is a huge gap inside. No options. It was noticeable that early in the second half Rice kept popping up on the left looking to carry the ball forward. They clearly discussed it.

Too often in games we are very concentrated on the centre and right flank. This used to happen to Martinelli. He'd receive the ball on the touchline and there was nobody within 30 yards of him. He could beat his fullback and still not have any option apart from a cross.

I am always going to feel that we wasted Martinelli. It could come back to haunt us

Agree. I loved Nelli. But to me it's no coincidence that his best season was when GX was playing as a pwoppa inside left, doing what Ødin did on the other side of the pitch with Wigwam central.

The next season, the idea was to play Kaiser there but it didn't work. The one after the idea was to try MnM there, but he started injured and then had to play up top {like Kaiser the year before.} The Zubi-Dec pivot didn't fix that aspect and I think it notable that when we started MLS this season, we saw Quantum creating loads from LW yet with Bruno G, he's been great but naturally drifts to the right where the action is like Kai does.

So on the right, we have the old B-Ødin-RB triangle plus Kai and Bruno but on the left we have the LW and Ricky C going more central.

Funnily enough, we looked a lot more dangerous on the right when Timber came on for Ben White.

We did. JT's such a good player. I love BW and when that right-side triangle with him works, it's still our best source of goals. But Jurrien's starting to do the same while still being a defensively sound as Ralph was.

JT and Ricky C are like Ralph and Cashley, but having BW and Hinchappy instead of Hoyte and Clichy is just a ridiculous luxury. We started Triphop as our 3rd choice RB in the CL final and Ezri can apparently play there. JT and MLS as 3rd/4th choice LBs. It's insane.

Konsa has been excellent. And he isn't properly bedded into that back four yet.

Timber is as good a full back as I've seen in years.

He really is. Hope he gets to win us the CL this season. Imagine we'd bought him on at HT in the final. Was gutted for Triphop then but Ganpati willing, he'll win loads with us. He should have just shoved him over like they did later to Noni cos apparently that's allowed in the box.
