Why didn't they say to him: no, it was a goal? Even even if the goalkeeper had Hoof the ball upfield from the goal kick, no one loses out if the referee blows his whistle signals it's a goal and gets Sunderland to kick off from the centre circle.

It's just a complete lack of competence that I can't stand.

I've not seen anything saying that Timber was actually onside. Surely they have these auto line drawing things that make it easy to see very quickly?

The Spanish have automated it I thought. If I had my way we would keep goal line tech and an auto offside function and bin the rest of the nonsense.

Yup. The VAR checked, as they have to, and saw it wasn't off-side so said check complete {them meaning that there was no offside.}

The ref interpreted it as meaning the lino was right.

They did all that. VAR saw he was onside, and said check complete. {We check for offsides, there wasn't one.}

Ref interpreted it as check complete, lino was right.

They had a whole thing on this on Sky I watched on Youtube. Everyone agrees it was onside. It was whether the VAR should have told the ref when they saw he'd given a FK, not a goal.

Cos they're not allowed to do that for some reason.
