  • So the latest transfer update now that Rogers is going to Chelsea

(as confirmed by Gary Jacob / Romano / Ornstien / HOA):

    - Arsenal have opened direct negotiations with Newcastle for Bruno Gumaries. Hoping a deal can be reached around the 70m mark.

    - Julian Alvarez is the club's number one priority to play as a central striker. He himself is still making it clear to Athelti that he wants to leave and is not against the idea of a return to the PL. Likely to cost 120m ish.

    - Gabriel Martinelli is up for sale. As is Gabi Jesus with AC Milian interested in the latter and Villa interested in Martinelli.

    - Club will sign a left winger. Nico Williams remains of interest and has a 77m clause.

    - Arsenal likely to sign a CB too with Ezri Konsa the top target. Ben White now set to stay for one more season.

I loved Nico Williams when I first saw him at a tournament {Euros?} aged about 17 or so. Looked great.

Would love him to come and to hit heights beyond everyone's wildest expectations.

    Yes please, Ganpati.

I agree. I think the issue with him is that he seems to want to stay in Spain (or more specifically at Bilbao) for a long time.

I like the loyalty - rare these days.

I thought he was awful in fhe final. Constantly choosing the wrong option and running into the full back. I dont want him. I think Martinelli is better.

Let me help you with that opinion that 'Martinelli is better than Nico Williams', Peter.

It's wrong. And it's not even close. Nico Williams is literally one of the greatest manipulators of the ball in tight spaces. It's his thing.

Martinelli is League One level in tight spaces as well all know.

You'll forgive us Rich if as we read this analysis of Gabi we think to ourselves 'this is the person that said that Gyokeres is the worst player he has ever seen play for Arsenal'.

22 goals in 157 games. He must spend an awful lot of time in tight spaces..

Your comment about Martinelli is embarrassing. I'm going to let it go.

I think you’ll find that Arteta and the board are far more closely aligned to me than you on our Vik.

                you’ll see.

It's wrong. And it's not even close. You said he was the worst player you had ever seen play for Arsenal. We said he is a good but limited in some ways player that brought things to the team that no other striker that we currently owned, did. And that he needed time to integrate into the team. He led the team in goals scored, both overall and in the league. In his first season with the club. His ability to win and hold the ball up front is easily the best at the team and the best we have had for some time.

So no, Rich, their view is far more aligned with ours than yours. And it's not even close. Regardless of what happens, you were grotesquely wrong about Vik. And you aren't far off with Gabi as well.

And now, like Peter, I'm going to let this go.?

I'm convinced we leak our 'transfer targets' and let them spend stupid money on them. They also should have sold Cuceralla after the WC, his value surely went up.

I'm still not buying the 'Chelsea nicked Rogers from Arsenal' headlines that are about. I don't think we were ever in for him, it just made no sense.

That was my thought too. I'm sure we pretend to have interest in a player so other clubs like Chelsea will splurge stupid money getting 'our' target. Seven year contract too! Don't they ever learn?

Chelsea probably expected Cucurella to be banned for most of the WC. £47.5m so not huge amount less than they paid for him 4 years ago.

We were certainly never going to pay £117m for him.

It is such a Chelsea signing. Decent player, worth half what they have paid for him, huge contract.

I am delighted. Didn't want him at all.

Agreed on all points. I believe it's a 6 year contract as I'm sure they stopped 7 year ones
