  • You in Paris, WES?

    Got a last minute overnight coach for a mate's 60th arranged by his family. Everyone knew but him. He thought I'd just turned up that morning for the usual friendship and food.

    Was gonna suggest meeting for a drink but it's so ****ing hot. Perhaps meet for an ice cream but dunno if I could face a long metro trip in this heat.

    We could burn down Parc des Princes, I s'pose and blame it on the heat.....

      Tell me about it. Have two plans.

      1. Go to the d'Orsay cos it has aircon. {If I stay an extra week could go again free cos every museum is free 1st Sunday of the month.} 15 quid to get out of 40C and into AC while looking at the greatest artwork in history seems fair. That's 2 pints in London, init? Probably what is costs to watch a Sperz pre-season friendly online.

      2. This. €45 to rent the smallest {4 man} leccy boat for an hour. Allows hounds. 500E deposit to stop you nicking it, but just blat around the canal and Seine in a glorified, waterborne dodgem.

      Boat rental on the Canal de l'Ourcq, bassin de la Villette, Canal St-Martin. Electric boat without license of 5, 7 or 11 places. Book now!

      No need for license. Can drive drunk as there are no rules. You can pay €7 for a hamper each - with a whole bottle of plonk each. So you're deffo allowed to drive/sail pissed. Might be cos they're electric engines. . {Not sure about drugs, mind. I think it's only a problem if we kill someone.}

      Only ever driven a speedboat in Sardinia before - that and our inflatable 2-man kayak in Margate we got off amazon.

      How was la Belle Normande?

      Hope you munched something sufficiently dairy.

        Belle Normande etait trop chaud, GG. Was at the beach in the Deauville and Cabourg but had to leave fairly sharpish as the temp was insane. Frenchies don't do la clime very well.

        Wonderful cheese, as usual; Fete de la musique was good, again as usual. But my favourite watering holes and brasseries were closed a few days because of the canicule.

        If you're around tomorrow Mrs WES has an art class so I could do a few cool ones in the afternoon. You anywhere near 8em? Pub there called The Bowler that is all right

          Where is this pub? {Exact address would be helpful.}

          We just got back from the British sports pub just off Rue Rivoli to us where I watched the last 2 hours of the cricket today. My mate Merwenn is really not into sports but when I said it wasn't crowded and it had clime he came and enjoyed himself.

          They have the Eng WC game tomorrow. We have some mate of his coming in the afternoon. Dunno if this will mean we have to delay the boat hire. So won't know what exact plans are until tomorrow. But we're all happy to put that off until next week.

          So let us know where this boozer in the 8e is and what time and we'll see if things work out so we can come. {How far away is it? We're neat St Paul metro in Ligne 1 so that's just 10 ins on the tube to Concorde at the end of the Tuilleries and start of the Champs.}

          Just now told Merwenn. Will try to make it happen that we will be free here by 7pm and can meet you for an hour or so tomorrow at 8pm.- he's bang up for it, especially after his first experience of a British pub in France, not London or Margate.

          But please tell us where asap. Address, the pub name, where in 8e, what time.

          Will try to PM you my WA number now. If you get it, please just send a WA msg saying "It's me. I love NSG and hate Rambo and here is the address and best time." Then we can communicate via WA.

          Ganpati willing we can meet at last NOW THE ELEPHANT-HEADED DIVINITY OF GOOD LUCK AND FORTUNE HAS MADE US CHAMPIONS. {NB, you don't have to worry. Merwenn's not a God-botherer.}

          A demain, j'espère, poto.

                    We did say that having talked about trying to arrange a rendezvous for the last 2-3 years since Wes moved here, it was great that we met as champions.

                    Btw, while I'd lived in the vague vicinity of the boozer we met in for a brief period in '95,I didn't know that exact metro on the streets around it.

                    So once I'd got the right metro, I had to try to remember the street name. World's End Stella had chosen a boozer in Rue d'Artois......
