I was saying pretty much this to a United fan at work. I doubt any of the new signings (apart from Zubi) will start against them.

Often the case. New signings are great but making a good start to the season often relies on those already there.

Zubimendi is going to be crucial to us. Hopefully will allow Odegaard to spend more time in the danger areas rather than having to drop deeper.

For some reason, it just occurred to me that we wouldn't mind announcing the thing while in Timbuktu, or wherever, on tour?
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

Surely not, if we're going to get your hundred points?

Well the keeper hopefully won't be needed outside of dead rubbers and league cups. Norgaard and the young defender are very much cover.

Gyokeres and the chelsea lad will be competing with the likes of Saka, Havertz and Martinelli for games. Not saying we won't need them. But we won't necessarily need to use them for the first few weeks.

Over a season, hopefully we'll see the impact of a deeper squad. But Zubimendi, from day one, is pur central pivot. He's crucial. If he needs time to adjust we may well struggle at first.

Arteta saying we are still short of numbers.... So obviously a striker will come in but sounds like there might be others too.

I think we are still a little bit short. which was our problem last season our bench was lacking.

just in terms of numbers you have Joringho (Norgaard) Partey (Zubimendi) Sterling (Madueke) so that's all the same.

Not sure where Madueke will fit in. I can't see an expensive signing like that being a back up.

Unless he's thinking of playing him on the left. Arteta hasn't been happy with the left side for a few years now. would still like an Eze in as well as Gyokeres.

His aim is generally to have two players that he trusts in every position. But that is only 22 players. Take 5 injuries and you are down to 17 and unable to fill a bench. That looks bad, but it isn't really, unless the injuries are all in the same position (which happened last season).

If the striker and the new defender come in then we are definitely not short of numbers. Not as long as Zinchenko, Lokonga, Vieira and Nelson are still here. Assuming they all go, we are left with 23 (including Jesus). I think that is enough.

I think it'll be Gykores (or at least a striker), one of Eze/Simons and then maybe if we sell Trossard someone else too.

Plus lots of outgoings which you allude to.

Simons would be a great signing. I recall him running our midfield ragged a few years back for PSV.

                        Isn't he about 40 now?

On that subject, is Scottie Scheffler the world's oldest looking 29 year old?

I know, I was surprised as well.

But so has Saka, I suppose.

Gyokeres will be once we signed him. Something about Simons I don't like.
