Our averages for game goals conceded (0.7), shots on target faced (2.4), shots faced per game (8.2) and expected goals against (0.7) were the lowest tallies across Europe?s top five leagues this season.Originally posted by Peter View PostGive us the highlights
We kept a 32nd clean sheet in 62 Premier League games against Newcastle United, the most any side has kept against a single opponent in the division
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.
"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

I do like that last one. And it should be 33. That goal where var couldn't see the ball out of play, the handball, the offside, and felt the push in the back was fine. Disgracia!Originally posted by redgunamo View PostOur averages for game goals conceded (0.7), shots on target faced (2.4), shots faced per game (8.2) and expected goals against (0.7) were the lowest tallies across Europe?s top five leagues this season.

So our goals conceded were identical to our expected goals conceded? Doesn't say much for our goalkeeper......

And the 4-4 should have been a clean sheet. 4-0 up with 20 minutes to go... You wouldn't catch Arteta's Arsenal imploding like that.Originally posted by Peter View PostI do like that last one. You wouldn't catch them being 4-0 up either.Originally posted by Maravilloso Marvo View PostAnd the 4-4 should have been a clean sheet. 4-0 up with 20 minutes to go... You wouldn't catch Arteta's Arsenal imploding like that.
Wenger's Arsenal first half, Arteta's second half. That's the dream....

Hmmm, my recollection is that in those many 4,5 or 6 goal humiliations during the latter Wenger years we were out of the match in the 1st half.Originally posted by Peter View PostYou wouldn't catch them being 4-0 up either.

Still, a nice thought and a snappy line, Peter
Not quite reality, sadly

He's too predictable.

Right. It was never about money, players. It was all about application and competence.Originally posted by WES View PostHmmm, my recollection is that in those many 4,5 or 6 goal humiliations during the latter Wenger years we were out of the match in the 1st half.

I think the problem with Wenger's approach was that it did rely on having players who were good at football.Originally posted by redgunamo View PostRight. It was never about money, players. It was all about application and competence.
George found a way to make that irrelevant. If anything, he saw good players as weakening the side.
Arteta has found a way to build a side full of good players but in a system that stops it from bcoming a problem.
