I thought that. It was the guy 1-2 mins before who claimed Gabby elbowed him when Raya was waiting to pick the ball up. That's just not believable in that situation. I reckon the ref though **** him at that point, as did I.Originally posted by IUFG View PostBig win.
Ref showed *******s to blow up then
Yes, you have to chase it to force Raya to pick up. Yes of course Big Gabby will try to shield you from it. But to then headbut Gabby's elbow from behind, dive to the floor and claim the pen?
Before that, from about 88' onwards the ref had been giving them the 50/50s.

Ref blew for half time when we passed backwards from that position.Originally posted by Peter View PostSloppy, but a big win.
Ref did the same at end of first half. We were on the edge of the box with the ball. Inches from where Semenyo was
Was more than a tad surprised when he called time when he did but did wonders for my blood pressure.

He gave them time to throw the ball in, and he blew as soon as we headed it clear. Fair enough.
Most refs would leave the guy to put the cross in, if it went behind for a corner he'd probably let them take that as well.
If time is up, it is up.
I admit it is unusual.

It was already 15 secs over when the throw was taken. There had been no injury or substitution in injury time. The only delay was their kid headbutting Gabby's elbow to claim a pen and the ref rightly decided that doing that shouldn't gain any extra time for them. He should have kept trying to get past Gabby until Raya picked up.Originally posted by Peter View PostIt is one of the things that annoys me.

He gave them a throw in, if it had ping-ponged in the box he wouldn't have blown. But when Dec won that first header time was up. It's not like rugby where the attacking side can keep going for minutes as long as they don't lose the ball.

It is one of those areas where the reality of everyday refereeing differs from the rules. If time is up, rhe ref should blow. In reality, you kind of know he isn't going to until the ball arrives in a neutral position. When the clock rolls around to the end of added time I usually think we just need to win the ball back once.
That's why Bournemouth are angry,, despite the fact that what the ref did was perfectly correct.

But then how long should they be allowed to go on? Indefinitely like rugby?Originally posted by Peter View PostIt is one of those areas where the reality of everyday refereeing differs from the rules. Like foul throws....

If we go that way, then after the 7 mins or whatever is up, you're saying that if AFC have possession, we don't need to lump it into the box, we can just horseshoe it around, back to Raya and back up again etc for as long as we want until we get the perfect chance.
I know it's unusual. My reading - and this is only mine so prob wrong - was that from about 85-88 mins, he started to give them a chance. Every 50/50 went their way. But when, in the 93rd min, that kid bundled into Gabby and then insulted the ref by claiming he was elbowed, I think the ref thought sod it, you can have your mins and no more. Don't take me for a muppet.
And fair play to him.
