You don't need to read a tabloid to know how they think, Herbs. My paywalls bypass allows me to read the thoughts of the fruitcakes, closet racists and swivel-eyed loons* in the Speccie and Torygraph.

Strange they were all up for defending Ukraine like Sir Winnie would have done when BoJo was leader. But now Trump wants to sell them out to Putin they're up for it because it annoys the "liberals."

Imagine if they were transported back to 1941. "So glad Adolf's invaded the USSR as it's really annoying the lefties. I think we should stop the war - then Winnie will get a peace prize and that will annoy the lefties even more."

Just read it. I take your point. The thing is that in the old days, people read tabloids of left or right, but the BBC or ITN news would sort of act life a referee for everyone at night.

Now we have social media echo chambers that no longer happens. There's no way you can reason with many people nowadays.

I really don't like living through this technological revolution at my age. When I was on the free rave scene after uni in the early '90s, bliss was it in that dawn to be alive but to be young was very heaven, as Billy Wordsworth said of the Fr Rev. Perhaps the hippy scene would have been even better.

But this social media, tech barons and AI nonsense is too much for me.

I guess our scene was the very final flowering of Romanticism which replaced the Enlightenment in the period 1780-1830 and then dominated culturally.
