I don't know much about us winning the league in 48 and 53. In my mind, you have the Herbert Chapman success in the 30s, then Bertie Mee in 71, then George Graham and Wenger.

Then I appreciate it is probably because of my age, but these last 22 years have literally flown by. So couple that together with my mind thinking that the gaps further back were an eternity and I am left very confused by the concept of time.

Also, very interesting viewpoint on the histories of Man Utd and Liverpool.
Definitely an age thing. It is very hard to believe it has been 22 years. But our previous longest gap was 18 years. 53 to 71, and then 71 to 89. One title in 36 years! And I missed it by a year

When i was young United were average. A decent side who spent a lot, had loads of fans but never did much. Bit like the last ten years

As a club, they are in a mess. We have to give our guys a lot of credit for scrapping that idiotic structure that ruined Emery's time with us, and finding one that works. And having the guts to accept how far we had sunk and how long they had to give Arteta to turn it around. None of the ego you see at other clubs, that leads to impatience and turmoil.

It feels like United are still having that conversation. I hope they keep going

You'd also think that would make it harder for our sides at a European level and perhaps that is true in the CL. The fact that you must play at 100% every weekend must mean you're more prone to injury / less able to give 100% in the CL.

I suppose that's why PL clubs need deeper squads then their European counterparts.

Either that or they can lower the temperature of each game, like we did; lots of sideways passing, less chaos, reduced high-pressing, ball-chasing and less sprinting long distances back towards our own goal.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."
