The invincibles. But never really got to celebrate it the way I would now.
We are so close and for a certain generation of Arsenal fans; this season is everything. For me; Arteta has easily equalled Wenger?s achievements.
I so so hope we do what we have set ourselves up for. As Mikel and Dec say; we have decided how we are going to live the next four months. Drink it in and what will be will be.
Up The Arsenal. I love this football club so much.
Wenger?s achievements were mostly subtle. Admittedly I didn?t know The Arsenal pre Wenger (or not knowingly). I distinctly recall listening to Arsenal V Wimbledon on the alarm radio when I was supposed to be sleeping. I want to say we won 6-1 so that?ll give you an idea on timing,
But never in my life as an Arsenal fan have we been widely considered the best team in the world, now we are - so drink it in.
9 points clear in the PL and favourites to win it. Joint top scorers and best defence.
Won every game in the CL. Favourites.
Favourites for CC.
Favourites for FA cup.
We?d never have dreamed of this under wenger.
2002-2005 wenger was was a fantastic side. We were playing the best football on the planet. The invincibles could have done the treble that year.
This team has achieved nothing yet. Winning the league this year would be great, even without the rest of it.
Then next year we have to do it again.
I?d feel far more confident if we were performing consistently, like champions, and blowing sides away. That 5-0 thumping of Leeds back in 2003-4, where the run in became a bit of a procession.
We?re still puffing and blowing a bit but that may partly be down to it being a far tougher competition these days than back then. The levels from top to bottom are so much higher.
It?s still only 25 games, whereas, if it was 30, I?d feel more relaxed, given the points differential.
It?s still in the balance. 3pts today for City, followed by 3pts dropped away and it can all transform.
Statistically, both clubs will continue to drop points to the end. Villa don?t have enough to make it a three horse race, so Arteta?s never been in a such a strong position.
City buying Guehi & Semenyo was an act of desperation and face saving. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth for me. The Jan window should be stopped for a whole raft of competition reasons, even more so these days, given the financial position of clubs like City. I genuinely think they could have ended up third or fourth without those buys.
The Scousers have a massive incentive today; there?s a bit of a gap opening up for CL places, given the form of Utd & Chelsea and three points dropped would put a big dent in them qualifying.
