    I never saw Marriner or Woodcock live. How did they compare? We were so rarely on tv then. I did use our new, first VHS to record a MotD when Tony scored this sort of sideways scissor kick volley. The VCR had frame advance so I could watch it again and again in the world's slowest slomo.

    What else did they do? Didn't one of them score 4 in a game? I don't remember much between Sunderland and Stapleton and Champagne Charlie and Niall Quinn.

    Woodcock was a decent player with us, as I recall. Mariner was a bit past it.

    I loved Quinny. But Alan Smith was just too good to compete with.
