    I agree it wasn't a pen.

My point is that it's really stupid to put your arms around a player like that, you're asking for a foul to be given.

If you don't plan on holding him, what are your arms doing there? I expect that was very much in the mind of the ref when he gave it.

Every player in the box has their arms around an opponent, or a handful of shirt. It is how you defejd and attack a set piece.

It is ludicrous to single one out unless it is coupled with an actual foul.

Can't say I'm 100% on our penalty. I agree it s a foul, I am just so used to seeing those ignored in the premier league.

There is a very big difference between having a hold of someone's shirt and standing behind them with both of your arms around them. Every player in the box definitely does not do that.

Rice was stupid, and we got lucky that VAR intervened and the ref had the balls to overturn it.

It was never a penalty, but had it been given I would have blamed Rice for being stupid.

Also not convinced on the penalty we were given. It was either a pen or a very good dive by Merino, not sure which.

So you would have blamed Rice for not fouling someone, and doing what everyone does at a set piece?

I'd blame him for standing there doing nothing. So poor old Declan is getting **** from one of us either way

Are you channeling Donald Trump's press secretary, Peter?

You have said twice now that he was doing what everyone does at a set piece and you know it isn't true. Everyone does not put both arms around an opposition player from behind at a set piece. This is not true. This is fake news.

I would have been more than happy for him to do what he should have done. Got goal side of Mbappe and grabbed some of his shirt with one hand.

Now that is what everyone does, Peter

I was shocked he overturned it.
It wasn't a pen but I agree with you. I wish that for all corners, the first person who grabs hold of another gets penalised. Either a pen or FK. It would be madness for the first 2-3 months of the season but it needs to be done.

Btw, how are you finding Gay Paree. I heard you watched the first leg in the 8e. Used to stay there with a mate just off Madelaine. A DJ called C-Bass who used to do Thursday nights at the Gibus in Republique. Nicest bouncers in history. C-Bass would take a bottle of vodka in his record bags and we'd drink it behind the decks. Bouncer saw us and gave us a nod, saying I'm ok, just don't let the owner catch you.

One night my mate and I got back from Amsterdam but got to the Gibus after it had started. Bouncer said sorry, you're not on the guest list {our mates didn't know we'd be there.} Asked if he could go inside and ask but he said he had to stay outside.

*******s, we said. No probs. He smiled and said in you go, I know you're part of their crew and you'd be on the list if they knew you were in town.

As I say, the most civilised bouncers.

I didn't know The Gibus was a well established venue until I saw it in a film about French punks in the '70s.

But where's this bar in the 8th you watched the game at? And where will you watch the PSG game?

I could see one arm around him, but not clutching him. Not sure I saw both arms around him. I am pretty sure that what I saw was what happens at every set piece, and that it wasn't a foul.

There are limits to what you can get away with at a set piece, we all accept that. Rice was comfortably within those limits and made no foul. Given that, I'm afraid the only people I can blame are the idiot who gave the penalty and the guy who dived.

The only reason the ref gave that penalty was because he gave ours. 999 times out of a thousand a ref laughs at that incident.

Sorry. I watched it again and you're talking nonsense

He doesn't even have one arm around him. Mbappe is backing in, has his arm around Rice's side. Rice's left arm is locked with his and going across his body. Rice's other arm is doing nothing. It is bog standard grappling from both and not even close to being a foul.

And the reason he isn't goalside of him is because doing so would play everyone onside.

Rice is perfect there, has done absolutely nothing wrong

Well, let?s just agree to disagree, Peter.

His left arm is absolutely around him and his right arm is touching him, is that better? Either way it was stupid.

And if you think that letting your man get goal side of you and between you and the ball is a good way of defending a set piece I?m not convinced on your defensive strategy.

Now, shall we switch to something we can agree on? Just Like Tom Thumb?s Blues came on my playlist the other day

Paris est bon, GG, tres bon! French isn?t progressing as quickly as I hoped but definitely getting better. Loving the food scene, art scene, music scene and generally exploring the city.

I watched the game at Brady?s Irish pub on Rue Lisbonne. Nice little place and they have Piper?s crisps to eat with my pints of lager! I live just north of Parc Monceau in Courcelles so just walk through the park and turn left onto Rue Lisbonne and Brady?s is about 5 min walk. Will be there for the PSG game as well if you plan on being in the city. My schwarma place is in Marais so too far for a post match kebab. Not many kebab shops in the 8th sadly.
