I know. When I was doing my MA in Canterbury about 6/7 years ago, I met one guy {a mature student from a different history MA} I'd drink with all afternoon after my tutorial cos he was living back on campus.

One evening, there was a group of lads, chanting songs with one forced to drink booze from a shoe.

We asked the barman and he said it was the hockey team having their induction or whatever.

Thing is, they started at 7pm and ended at 9 on the dot. "That was our two hours of fun for the week and we aren't allowed one second more."

My halls of residence bar in my first year {of first degree} was rammed at closing time. But it was, in '89-'90, 79p a pint - supposedly cheapest in London. The uni bar itself {The Three Tuns} was 4p a pint more.
