Is it all down to pox luck with injuries,
or does squad management play a role ? How much notice have we had about the brittle physicality of Jesus over the years, while at the same time, massively over playing Saka.
We partly reap what we sew.

Eddie, late subbed in the 86th minute, and getting on the scoresheet.
Three of the four forward injuries are muscle injuries so they are in the possibly preventable pile.

We knew we were short up front in the summer. He let four players leave and only brought in Sterling. We knew Sterling was a gamble, and we knew that Jesus generally misses around a third of a season. So it was a gamble from the off.

It hasn't paid off, but as I have said all season it isn't why we wont win the league. Our overall performance levels haven't been good enough since day one and our tactical focus hasn't been right. Arteta has a lot to unpick over the summer.

We?ll end another season without silverware. Ordinarily, not a huge issue but quite relevant for those more ambitious squad members. I see offers coming in for Saliba, who could be tempted to push on for glory elsewhere. He could secure a decent sum for bolstering the frontline. I also see problems raising funds from players no longer required. Sterling can be off?d easily enough but Jesus, we?re stuck with for possibly another season, Partey & Tierney out of contract, Zinny, Kiwior Vieira won?t fetch much and god knows if Tomi will ever kick a ball again without breaking something.
Appreciate all squads battle with this stuff but success is cyclic and we?re possibly now due a dip after coming so close.
The next season, probably Arteta?s last if this one is repeated.

Arteta's time with us has not been one of smooth, linear progress. There have been ups and downs, and plenty of backwards steps. This is a bad season, in the context of it not representing what we are capable of. I am confident he can put it right next year.

We do need two or three shrewd signings in the summer but that is all.

Spot on - remember Wenger finished second three times in a row before the great years or 2002 and 2004. (also we were cheated out in the league in 2003 when we were clearly the better team - certainly not enjoying how **** a manager horse faced **** is. Remarkable his team's performances have dived)

Also.... the people calling him an idiot for not signing bucket loads of strikers do tend to overlook the fact that our current forward line (the injured one) did outscore everybody else last season. The same people said the thing last January and then slowly shut the hell up as the second half of the season unfolded.

There was a strong case for bringing someone in on loan this January, purely for the numbers but it obviously didnt work out.

Even Pep had a bad season a few years back. And then this one!

I agree on the numbers thing but then again that was maybe also the reasoning behind the Sterling deal (I still think he will do something good before the end of the season.)

Was that the night Henry was chucked on from the bench in desperation although he was clearly injured? When the bloke behind me screamed, '**** off Henry what have you ever done?'

    Great memories.
