The point is that the relationship between his role, the CEO and the coach is absolutely essential in ensuring that our coaching aligns with our strategy. Just look at the clubs where that isn't the case, United being most obvious. They've consistently signed the wrong players for the coach they appointed.
I'm not saying Edu alone is capable of doing this job. But I am saying that if we get the replacement wrong, we are going to be ****ed. Look at the absolute mess before Edu- signings were all over the place and left Emery with a ludicrous squad and not a hope in hell of succeeding.
Arteta needs someone he gets along with and trusts, and he needs reigning in at times.
