Was only reading recently, though, that Pablo Picasso took the maternal name (he was actually a Ruiz) but then again his full name was Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Mar*a de los Remedios Cipriano de la Sant*sima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso so he may have just been confused
