This is the largest talent pool in Europe. As a kid growing up I watched them win armfuls of medals. The East German ladies sporting their dark blue, gorging themselves on handfuls of steroids,cleaned up in the swimming pool. Deutschland über alles rang out everywhere.
Yet here we are today, a derisory medal haul of 6, and only 2 golds.
