And furthermore, there is a lot more to enjoying football than memories of trophies.

Arteta's biggest achievement is to give us hope again. We came within a few points of the league last year against a financially doped team managed by arguably the best manager in the world over the past 10 years. Being in with a shout right up to the last game was something we had not epxerienced in many years. I, for one, loved it.

Equally, the knockout stages of the CL, especially the Madrid hammering, were wonderful, even if we came up just short.

The idea that you would reduce the performance of a manager down to nothing more than just winning a trophy is something that a hopeless club like Spurs would do.

We're the Arsenal. Our sights are set much higher.

Going forward, there is a strong argument for removing the Champions League place from the Europa League. It sort of made sense when the CL sides dropped in as there was a link between the two competitions. With that link gone you are just offering a champions league place to pub teams.

Some absolute drivel. Basically saying you lot are happy just to be competing again. We can win the so called sh*t trophies and be competitive as well in the CL and Prem. Tottenham a few years back were probably 2nd best team in quality for a few seasons but won nothing. Guarantee at this point Spurs fans don't even acknowledge that fact anymore but they will remember yesterday for most their life's. Trophies matter. We need to win some soon. Our performances for the last few years are simply not good enough.

As much as I hate to agree with WES, he is right in that Arteta's biggest achievement is giving us hope. Choosing a **** trophy over hope is an unhealthy form of instant gratification. Like opting for a dab of speed because there is no prospect of the coke arriving :-)

None of this diminishes what Crystal Palace have achieved this season, and I couldn't be happier for them. And I was delighted for West Ham when they won that ****ty cup, and particularly for Moyes who thoroughly deserved to win something.

Newcastle, for different reasons, can **** right off :-)

Our performances this year were not good enough. Our performances last year came ****ing close to toppling City. If Son hadn't fluffed a one on one late on against City in the penultimate game we would have been champions.

I don't think anyone here is saying they don't want to win things. The point is that the ****ty cups are chicken feed compared to the real goals. If we had a squad that could fight effectively on four fronts I am sure we would give it a better go. But we don't. Not quite.

Put it this way. I'd rather get to the semi finals of the Champions League and look competitive against the very best than win the League Cup.

Can you honestly say you were happier in 2020 than now? With that ****ing god awful, bloated squad and the abysmal football we were serving up? I wasn't.

I remember being at school and we lost in the first round of the big cup competition and were entered into the Plate competition.

We won it.

We were having our moment, with the big wooden plate with the shiny engraved metal shields on, when our teacher told us to stop celebrating because the only reason were we in the compeition is because we were losers. Or First of the Worst as he put it.
