Almunia did play well in one game for us. Away at OT, CL SF first leg. We lost 1-0 but he pulled off 4 of five world class saves to keep us in the tie.

Though the home leg is best forgotten. We actually had most of the ball and attacked with the crowd right behind us for about 7 mins, and then Gibbs {???} slipped under no pressure around the edge of our box, giving them a simple goal.

The atmosphere dissipated like a punctured balloon.

Then that preening Coont Ronaldo scored a direct FK from about 40 yards. I get that from that distance you can use more power as you don't need as much dip but FFS, he was beaten from 40 yards. He had 30 yards to see the ball after it passed the wall.

Can't remember their 3rd. We got a late penalty.

And all those Mancs giving it the large in the away section.

Horrible, horrible night. Worst at the new gaff.

In some ways worse than losing to the Chavs in the QF at Highbury in 2004. Simply because when they scored the winner there was only about 8 mins left, and by the time I'd gone to the bog to do some drugs and come back, we were getting towards injury time. {Away goals meant an equaliser wouldn't have been enough.}

But that ManU semi meant we had 80-odd minutes of misery.

Third was a breakaway goal I think, But you are right about the first leg. Almunia was a decent shot-stopper but the drop between him and Seaman/Lehmann was so big that I can't understand it even now.

Mind you Vince Bartram being understudy to Seaman is equally baffling

Almunia had an amazing first half at home to Barcelona. He then blew it by costing us a goal in the second half with a run to nowhere.

I don't recall ever seeing Vince Bartram play.
