    Times I have been in Ireland it is usually the night before that the real drinking is done - and St Paddy's day is used for sleeping it off

    Yes, but with it falling on a Friday, that allows solid drinking from 5pm last night through to Sunday. People may die.

    Although, crucially, not of thirst. That must be the worst way to go.
