    Yes, they're always getting that sort of thing wrong. It's like Planet Of The Apes. The French originals were supposed to be a satire about American racial issues. Fortunately, Hollywood recognised that they were actually much more entertaining when they were about humans living in a world run by apes.

    I took it as both. The plucky locals standing against the arrogant oppressor empire, in this case a pan-national superstate, is a scenario many peoples should be able to identify with.
