Hertford has some nice pubs - that one on the Folly, especially - The Old Barge. Lovely in the garden if sunny.

That is nice. I prefer The Old Cross Inn, which is a real, old-fashioned drinker’s pub with booths and open fires. The only food they do is pork pies, scotch eggs, crisps and nuts. Proper pub, that.
The Black Horse isn’t bad.
The Woolpack is beautifully situated, but is unfortunately a McMullen’s pub, which means the beer is shíte.
