He played every third Wednesday for 209 months at Blueberry Hill, a local here in The Loo. He quit the winter after his 88th birthday. You see, Chuck insisted on driving himself everywhere. He was finally convinced that driving to Blueberry Hill in winter weather at age 88 was not smart. Once he broke the habit he never picked it back up.
Ash and Chris+ will like this. Billy Peek was a guitar player in his band in the 60's/70's. Billy now has his own gigs, for some time now, and plays around town. Billy tells the story that Chuck never liked to practice as a band, or even warm up before a gig! He showed up a bit late, took the stage and started playing. But Chuck didn't believe in set lists either, or deciding what key to play the songs in! It was up to the band to figure out what Chuck was playing and in what key.
I went to his Wednesday gigs 5 times. Only heard him play 3 times. One, it was 11:00pm and he still didn't show so we left. The other, he sat at the bar laughing with friends the whole night. the band played, but no Chuck. there were some Germans there that night, they traveled just to hear him... heh
Oh, HBAMIMO.
