The way I had it explained to me was that rather than thinking of it as 1+1+1=3, you should think of it as 1x1x1=1.

And the 3rd, Shiva, is simultaneously the same as and different from his wife, Parvati, who's also an re-incarnation of his first wife Sati, but Parvati also incarnates as pure destruction, Kali. And then we've got millions of others Gods, too. Durga, Ganga etc.

So if it comes to a God ruck, we'd win.
