During the world cup, I got in trouble with the wife for pointing out that having some broad on the panel talking about top-flight men's football was the equivalent of getting me in to do punditry on test matches. In middle age I was a decent and destructive club batsman. In my youth I was a very good club/league batsman and a bang average County Colts player. None of these qualifies me to speak with authority on telly about the pressures or experience of playing test cricket. Same goes for some bird talking about playing in the World Cup.
