    Yes. That 'iddly-diddly village idiot quality' Sir C refers to is also known as 'Irishness'. What he is objecting to is that an Irish song sounds a bit too Irish.

    By the same logic, he presumably would also prefer a country version of Redemption Song.

    Actually, that sounds quite good.
