Don't be such a pearl-clutcher. They are a necessary ally for entirely moral reasons.

yeah, I could see we could have a full and frank exchange of views taking all afternoon on that. I liked the bit where they blackmailed the UK to carry on paying the bribes or else they'd stop "co-operating on intelligence" (ie: send more of their headchoppers into to attack us)

As opposed to morally spotless allies like Russia, Iran and Assad, you mean?

    Willkommen in der Realpolitik.

I'll take the secular, non-sectarian, arab socialists and christian conservative Rooskies over the Wahhabi headchoppers and their army of the worst thugs and criminals in the world, thanks. Most Syrians support Assad. Less keen on Iran tbf, but gimme a Shia over a Sunni any day.

Syria is a lot more complicated than that now, a. Everyone’s killing ISIS now.

Not in Deir Ezzor province. the Yanqui only operate East of the Euphrates, and they only kill ISIS when ISIS are fighting one of their other proxies. When they've finished fighting them, they bus the survivors away and set them to work fighting the government. Even the BBC has reported on this.

Of course. The game now is shoring up against Russia, Iran and Syria and everyone’s got deeply unpleasant allies.

    A tribute:

I’ll spend the rest of my life

But there ain’t no virgins here
Just 71 versions of my wife

I will admit to being out of touch with youth culture but I have honestly never heard of this bloke.

What I’ve never understood is the “it’s all about oil” refrain, the insinuation being that the motive for wanting to control oil is purely financial greed, ignoring how it is massively important in shaping geopolitical power structures and therefore the security of the world.

In other words: no-one gets to play the white hat here. There are no good guys and everyone's dirty as hell. Given which, moral posturing about us, the US or Israel being in bed with Saudi just won't stand up, I'm afraid.
