Thread: The Vinicius Jnr incident.

    The Vinicius Jnr incident.

It?s clear the guy must have called him something, otherwise why raise the shirt over his mouth.
It was slightly amusing the way VJ then took off out the traps to confront the ref though ? Something of the school playground about it, Sir, Sir, Sir he just called me a name.
Personally, I?d prefer to see old style retribution, Paul Davis - Glen Cockerill. Calm, assured.. Have that, you racist prick, sort of thing.

Well, yes. But Paul Davis got banned for that. Hardly fair....

It is clear something has gone on. But I'm not sure that storming off the pitch is the answer. Deal with it after the game.

But then I am a cis white male. I wouldn't understand.

But he's already dealt with it, with that wonderful goal. We can't have it both ways; either the game is all about football or it isn't.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

Right. That's what the dressing room is for. No need to ruin things for everyone else.

See you in the car park. That kind of thing?

Why is it always Vini Jr? Plenty of other black players at Madrid but he always seems to be the one on the end of the abuse

Clearly he winds people up. But regardless of that, it cannot be used to justify any form of racism back to him. We're meant to be kicking it out. Best way is a crunching tackle 30 seconds after the restart imo.

It is also entirely possible that he's mis-heard what he said. There are 60,000 shouting Portugesers in there and he's put his shirt over his mouth which is sure to have muffled whatever he said.

The act of pulling the shirt over his mouth is not an admission of guilt. Footballers & even coaches frequently do it with their hands to stop the television cameras trying to guess what they're saying.

Not in this case, R. There?s no law against simply swearing at an opponent, so why cover up for calling him a kyunt etc. No ones getting sent off for that sort of thing, unless it?s aimed at the ref.

Exactly. But I suppose everybody has focus groups, activists and sponsors to please nowadays so stoic silence followed by a bunch-of-fives after hours is out of the question.
