    Corners

I await the radio silence when Declan and Saka are dropping them in for England in the World Cup.

    Funny, isnt it.

When we score from corners, people scream about holding and want a free kick.

When we defend corners, people scream about holding and want a penalty.

When everyone else scores from corners, there are no screams to be heard....

I read one article about how our approach to corners was contrary to the laws of the game. This point was illustrated by three photographs of corners, none of which were from games involving us.

One doesn't like to suggest any form of bias here, but.. well, one does wonder sometimes

I am sure they will change rules about it if we end up winning anything.

Scoring from them doesn't bother me in the slightest, certainly not when we do it, anyway.

I do agree that the holding/mauling/tackling at corners seems to have gotten out of control. Not sure it's actually possible for a referee to give a pen at a corner at this point.

ANd no idea what the solution is, if they start to apply the rules correctly at this point it will be carnage

    But what are the rules?

For example, you cannot commit obstruction off the ball by standing still. So a player standing where a goalkeeper wants to stand is not committing any offence whatsoever. The goalkeeper doesn't own that space.

Then the keeper shoves him. Technically that is a foul, but it is trivial. Then a defender stands between them and they lean into each other. Again, trivial. Then more players arrive....

There are ten battles going on as a corner comes in. How do you isolate one and call it a foul?

I dont know how to solve the problem. I only know that it only became a problem when we mastered it.

Those Chelsea corners brilliant, by the way. It does surprise me that people cant appreciate the brilliance of the delivery. It is really difficult to do.

They could potentially look at a limit for players inside the box. Perhaps a 4 v 4 type scenario with cards for grappling etc

Then they'll start applying it to free kicks. We just happen to have 2 players who can deliver a beauty of an inswinger and pretty much stick it on a sixpence. Teams will figure it out, they always do.....I actually think Chelsea had the right idea in the **** cup. Put players further upfield and force us to commit less.

That was the most interesting approach yet. I know other clubs tried leaving players upfield bit Chelsea had three players run out of the bos as we were about to take it. That is a real conundrum.

I'd bet we already have an answer to that one.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

It creates more space in the box.

While the headlines are all about grappling, that isnt what we do. More space means Gabriel has more options.

Nobody has yet worked out how to stop him. He is an absolute master at this.
