    Just for the record

of course I want us to win tonight but I really don't care if we get knocked out as long as there are no injuries to any of our main players.

I agree, but would go slightly further. I don't even want to see any of our main players tonight.

There are advantages to going out. I don't really fancy two games against chelsea in January, or a final against city or Newcastle in February. Those are games we do not need and where we would need to field strong sides.

If we go out tonight I won't be disappointed.

Agreed. Pointless competition in the grand scheme of things.

I still think of it as a chance to give young and fringe players a game. And then to bow out when it gets serious.

If we win tonight he will field strong sides for rhe semi finals and we will end up with more injuries.

Lack of prestige and all that aside, the beer cup has been far better contested than the FACup for yonks.
The top PL sides always seem to be in the semi?s but the FACup always seems to spawn more than its share of heavy underdogs in the latter stages.
I?d quite like us to win it, purely on the basis that we?ve farked up more often than anyone else in the final.

Not sure that we're really in a position to be turning our noses up at trophies. Arteta needs at least one and if we won this one, came 2nd in the league and got to the CL Semis it'd be a decent enough season.

Only because even the lower league sides don't take it seriously and play reserves. FA Cup is the one they care about.

U21's and fringe players, unless we reach the final. Would also rather go out to Palace than Chelsea

I don't agree. I think this is the kind of trophy that is a side dish. Goes great with the steak but is pretty useless on its own.

What you have outlined above is basically last season but with a **** cup. I wouldn't call that progress

Well we could easily go out in the 3rd or 4th round of the FA Cup if we get a bad draw. This (as it stands) is probably our best avenue to a trophy this season.

I agree, it probably is. I just don't measure success that way.

I also don't rate our chances. Two legs against chelsea and a final against City or Newcastle. I don't see us winning the competition but getting to the final will significantly impact on our progress in the proper competitions.

Obviously, I don't want us to lose. But if we do, I will embrace the benefits
