    Recommendations.

    Two nights so thinking maybe one bistro relaxed type affair and something more special (Michelin or otherwise).

    All tips gratefully received.

    I live in the 17th Rich so most of my recommendations are in this area

    Michelin - Mallory Gabsi near Argentine metro was very good

    I?d recommend a wander around Batignolles, very BOBO, and Chez Tartar is a very popular casual bistro there

    The Grill Room on Malesherbes is good and casual

    Magnum on Rue de Phalsbourg is also very good and fairly casual

    If you want a great wine list great ambiance and good food try Cave Legrand near Palais-Royal, also one of my favourite parts of Paris

    And if you want to mix it up, Ashiana in Neuilly is the best Indian restaurant I have been to outside of India

    Also take the missus to Marais for shopping and people watching, Chez Hanna for the best chicken shawarma or falafel kebab ever

    Oh and Le Courcelles next to Courcelles m?tro is another good brasserie

    Enjoy

    For the cheaper meal, I'd recommend my local on Ile St Louis, just 'round the corner from the bridge that connects the island with the Notre Dame one via the bridge at the back of the cathedral and just up from the bridge that goes south from the island to the left bank, hence the name, Auberge aux Deux Ponts:

    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=au...0paris%2075004

    7 rue des Deux Ponts, Ile St Louis, 75004 Paris

    {It means you're totally centre ville, so wherever you're coming from, you get a lovely walk by the river, can go past Notre Dame, about 10 mins from Hotel de Ville and 20 from the Louvre.}

    Was last there a year ago, so may have gone up slightly but it was €19 for two courses and €26 for three. It's SW duck based.

    Starters include foie gras, but I'd really recommend the carpaccio de boeuf simply because it was a newish addition to the menu and I'd eaten all the others so much, it made a nice change. Sliced a little thicker than usual which is ace.

    Just looked at one of the links. Seems it's gone up to €26 for 2 courses and €32 for 3. Still stunning value. Says they're now doing snails as a starter and oeufs meurettes, both of which I'll have to try. Had the scallops and foie gras and the gizzard salad before, both of which are stunning. Think you can pay an extra fiver for flamb?ed gambas but never had those.

    For mains, the magret de canard with foie gras is stunning, as is the confit de canard. Or pay an extra fiver for {fillet} tournados with foie gras. All of which are ace.

    Puds are ace too and he gives you a free chocolate marshmallow bear with the pudding. He's got this big metal thing that he gets red hot and whacks it on the cr?me brul?e in front of you. Profiteroles are tops, too.

    {And one lunch time, when we were the last two in there as it was now after closing time, we could see him in the kitchen doing the prep for the night, listening to '80s pop on the radio and smoking a fag.}

    Carafes of red are very reasonably priced - when we asked him, he said the C?te du Rhone is the best of the three. But you can get cheap bottles of claret for 25 or so if you prefer.

    Might need to book at weekends.

    If you look at all the reviews, you'll see everyone agrees that it's tops. What I also like is that it's the only gaff in the area that doesn't have the menu in English and it's handwritten. So if you don't speak French and can't read French handwriting, tough ****.

    Small gaff, about 6-8 tables or so, so really nice vibe.

    If you like cheap classics, I'd suggest doing lunch two in St Michel. I pop over there to the touristy pedestrianised bit just in the back streets behind the river-side road opposite Notre Dame.

    For about €15 {it was ten last time I was there} you can get onion soup, andouillettes in mustard sauce and choc mouse. Or moules and then steak au poivre. That sort of thing. Let me know if you want me to try to find the area on a map. They all have 3 course tourist menus at a couple of price points, so you can get all your face classics like fish soup etc.

    But deffo go to Auberge aux Deux Ponts for your cheaper supper, especially if you like duck and/or foie gras. But still great options if you don't. And as I say it's the plus centre de centre ville so no matter where you're staying or where you want to visit before you go and munch there, you won't be far.

    Enjoy, Rich. Ganpati bless.
