Thread: Willy Young RIP.

    Willy Young RIP.

    In Willy Young's four years, we one won FA Cup, lost two finals and a ECWC final. Sol had a double, a cup, and Invincibles and another cup. Can you imagine what the next CH we sign from Sperz will do?

    Thanks for everything, Big Willy.

    So he's part Sol Campbell, part Saliba.

    Can't say fairer than that.

    Will forever be remembered for cynically chopping down Paul Allen when clean through on goal in fhe cup final.

    Great challenge.

    RIP Willie

    We signed a CH and GK off a relegated team that let in 72 goals, and suddenly became one of the best cup sides on the planet. The Scousers were champions and would win the league again in 1980, but we beat them in the 3rd replay of the FA Cup SF.

    I know football's changed but if we see Paddy J as having the same composure as Daveed, O'Leary as having the unflustered class as Big Willy {the new one} then Big Willy {the old one} had the same old skool British CH mentality as Gabby.

    {Read an article a day or two ago saying that Gabby is a classic English CH despite being Brazilian and that's what late-era Wenger was missing. Maybe that's why he bought Rob Holding from a club relegated from what was Div 2 who did win us two cups.}

    I was at the 1980 FA Cup final, a 2-3 weeks before my 9th birthday. Only my third game. Think it was a 1-1 vs Southampton with Sunderland scoring and a 0-0 vs Forest. According to wiki. I thought it was 0-0 vs Ipswich and 1-1 vs Forest with Sunderland scoring but those are the only two that fit.

    I was at at least one of those semi final replays against Liverpool, with my dad.

    The game i remember most clearly is the home game against Juventus in the CWC semi final. I can still see the tiny red card in the air to one of the biggest cheers I'd ever heard

    I would have been 8 years old, with my dad and grandparents. My old Nan never missed a game

    And Spider is at the Burnley game, they just showed him on the telly. Out of respect, I suppose.
    "Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

    "But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

    Big Willy 2.0 to keep a clean sheet and even better, also score in his honour.
