Thread: Genuine question - kicking the ball away.

Genuine question - kicking the ball away.

I, totally forgot the game had started cos my mate was en route from Paris. When I realised it had, I went and found a stream about 2 mins after we'd scored.

A bit later NU had an attack and fouled one of us in the area. The ref blew for a foul. Everyone heard. The Geordie {Gordon??????} only had Raya to beat but when the whistle went for the most blatant of fouls, Raya stopped trying to prepare for a shot and put his arms down.

The peessed off Geordie, now well after everyone in the ground knows that the foul has been given to us, still decides to have a shot out of frustration and hits the bar.

No yellow card for kicking the ball away. Would have allowed us a quick free kick. 99.9% nothing would have come from it, but there were two of them just in front of Raya and a quick FK would have gone passed both of them, allowing the chance of a counter.

No yellow. Would also have meant that he couldn't have later taken one for the team if he'd been on a yellow.

Yet later, MA gets booked for kicking the ball away near the technical area.

I don't want to sound like a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but why is taking a shot long after everyone knows the whistle has gone allowed? Gordon even dropped his head in frustration when the whistle went, and waited a bit before taking the shot.

It was longer after the whistle than Leo vs City. It did more to delay a quick FK than Dec's 2nd yellow. But that's ok.

I don't think it is a priority anymore.

It was a new FA initiative at the beginning of the season - a bit like that year they decided that contact from defenders at corners would result in a penalty. Ridicules.

Of course, The Arsenal suffer disproportionately at the hands of this initiative, then it dies a death...

MA didn't even kick the ball away, he kicked it back to them.

THe Arteta situation was totally different - he shouldn't be kicking the ball at all. He knew exactly what he was doing. Actually thought the ref had a good game yesterday

Really? Numerous free kicks we didn't get that were clear fouls. Thought he was bang average, at best.

THought that he didn't give much to either team. Let the game flow. Maybe good is overselling it - not as **** as some are

Agree completely with this. He could see the Newcastle player going to pick up a different ball to take the throw in quickly. He then didn't kick it back to where the throw in was to be taken, he kicked it a couple of yards to the right so it went clearly onto the pitch. A former player of his ability knew exactly where he was kicking it.

And...... they tend not to book you for doing that if you are losing. Unless you are clearly trying to remove and advantage (eg the Real Madrid lad).
