'Seems that I was busy doing something close to nothing

'Met a dwarf that was no good, dressed like Little Red Riding Hood'
'Now you're unemployed, all non-void

Having Spanish as her mother tongue, my wife can often struggle with when to use "To Make" and when to use "To Do" in English as in Spanish "Hacer" covers both equally with no differentiation. In this case though, between do and make, I think make would be the better choice. Although as we all know, in reality neither are correct as you place a bet.

It’s these sort of bets you read about the next day.
Like the chap who landed 4 half time-full times on the South America football and netted 30k for a £5 bet.
Or my buddy who was just waiting for the next race at Cheltenham so was doing £1 slots in the Betfair casino and right as the race is starting he wins the jackpot £500k.
