In the summer when every man and child knew that players like Nasri and Fabregas would leave he was always adamant that he “expected” players to stay, the basis of which I assume is that they were under contract. Had he in any way deviated from such a statement he would have stoked the media into an even bigger story.

I do think the boy Vardy has been a bit of a huge **** about the whole thing. Stay/leave, just come clean but then be up front with the media that he will not speak on the topic again until the Euros are over, so next weekend.

More time to think about it, do **** off.

My caveat on the whole issue is that having now admitted that we know there is a need to address the forward area that we 100% now do so. Previous summers have seen us enter the water and then run back out again. By looking at Vardy he has told the world that he is not completely happy with Giroud as his primary option, to not now have plan B options to act on would be unacceptable.

I tried to say the same above but you put it in a better way. By admitting we are in the market, we should not be walking away empty handed.

We also don't want a similar situation to last year where we were apparently looking then Wenger told us that Welbeck was deaded for a few months the morning after the windows closed.

I have no idea what Wenger’s next step is in relation to a striker. Had he really wanted Morata (just to use him as an example) then he would have gone for him by now. I don’t think you have a plan A at £20m and then a plan B at £30m, does not tend to work like that.

Hang on. We were after Higuain before we went for Suarez, who was more expensive. Surely the Vardy signing was more opportunistic than anything else? Wenger probably thought he could get better value, but now he can't so has to pay the inflated figures for Morata/Lacazette/Batshuayi etc...

I would rather not reflect on the whole summer of Suarez if it is okay with you, but you may have a point.

However I do seem to recall us having an agreement in place for Higuain at an initial price lower than €40m, then they hiked the price up at which point we swerved and made fools of ourselves.

Right. We ended up with Mesut Özil
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

I would like to think that Wenger has a few targets in mind. It does appear that Vardy was an option that popped up and was offering good value so was worth a punt. Of course, Wenger might have played his hand and we are waiting to see what happens.

Wasn't the whole Suarez thing the year the summer after we signed Ozil?

    You might be right actually.

It doesn't seem that long ago but it was the same summer before the world cup - then we signed Sanchez the following year as well
