Pity the Parisians didn't throw a revolution for you. They've done that a few times for me, including the gr?ve g?n?rale {general strike} in '95 and the GJs protests. For the latter, in one of the tiny side streets, the CRS had this big truck that had huge metal barriers connected to hydraulic arms at the back which allowed it to barricade the entire street entrance.

My mate and I thought it rather unsporting for the authorities to make barricades when that should be the sole preserve of the revolutionaries. But it was a mental vehicle. {I lived in a CRS bus for a while when I was stuck in the southern suburbs during the '95 general strike. Quite a few French travellers bought 2nd hand CRS buses in the same way that we had normal 30' coaches - my first living vehicle was a Ford Viceroy bus with a turbo engine. So you could do 70mph and if the burner was still going, the smoke would come out the top like a choo-choo train.}

I did.... Went to Cave Lengrad and had a bottle from their (very well stocked) cellar. They did some clams to start as a special which were honestly brilliant. A beef wellington to for a main was washed down with a 2015 Pommerol.

Did lunch in the Latin Q but ended up at La Pie Noir which was charming and quite an authentican Parisien experience, I think. The staff there really make the place.

Was a really enjoyable trip all around and as you may well know - the weather the last few days was brillinat. Was up at Monmarte a couple of days ago sat in the sun with a beer and it could quite concievably have been April.

They then complained that the palate was not sufficiently developed. Yes, well, you order a 30 year old bottle of wine, wait 20min and then drink it and it isn' t great.

Wicked. The weather's been insane for years now. 19? in Feb etc. Similar now. Did you take the funky little funicular thing up Montmatre?

I just walked. Was a lot of vagrants selling knock off fags and a load of security guys around the station near there. Thought it was a right **** hole.

Then I got up to Sacre Coure, sat in the sun and all seemed better. Went in the smaller church next to it too so my wife could light a candle for her late grandfather. Was very wholesome.
