Football Hipster Book Reviews #1 Fear and Loathing in La Liga

I've just finished this and I was very, very impressed. Sid Lowe is really an excellent football writer but, in the early parts of the book at least, what really set it apart was the informative, balanced and in depth treatment of the franco regime.

Sid's other book is all about the causes of the civil war so it's perhaps understandable that he got this bit right but from the mid 50s onwards the football writing was absolutely excellent.

It's not the first book I've read on Real or Barca but it's definitely the best I have read on either.

I was thinking of buying a Ukulele Jorge. But I am worried this could be considered hipster.

I quite enjoyed The Secret Footballer - that hip enough for you?

Also, I wrote that book review in a Fash stylee though I failed to give it a score.

Oooh, that's on my list. I lent it to someone though, schoolboy error

As long as they are not current player autobiographies then I think you are OK. I mean, it's not as though its the autobiography of Sandor Szszeber, Dulka Prague's innovative reserve goalie/physio or anything.

Smile I was a bit worried a ukulele might make me look like the Lumineers or Mumford and sons or

    something.

My guitar skills are getting rather good. Taking a break for many years seems to have made me better. I am playing some van halen **** now. Though no song should ever need to have chords played on the 17th fret it's just mental.

I went to Guitar Center in Los Angeles and it was a nightmare. I decided to try an Ibanez. plugged it into some huge amp. the amp wouldn't turn on as the switch was f**ked.

After playing about with it a bit it came on (volume level 11) as I am standing next to the amp the whole shop sounded like a motorhead concert and these blokes came running over to turn it off.

    stupid shop.
