This playing out from the back stuff

It?s all well and good trying to retain possession but if the opposition are smothering your defenders like a wet blanket, doesn?t it make sense to lump it up field once in a while ? Raya for their second goal. Good grief 🙄

Possession is a lie. There is only football.
Through our football we gain strength,
Through strength we gain power and through power we gain victory.
Through victory our chains are broken.
    Our football shall free us!
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."

    Risk v Reward, innit.

It does make sense though. If possession is going to be so important, then your keeper clearly has more "free ball" than any other player on the pitch. Might as well use that than have him just hoof the ball away all the time. Naturally he's going to come a cropper once in a while.

David Raya has not only changed the way we play but also the way other teams play against us.

Indeed - it is not just about keeping possession it is about drawing the other team out and making space. Tbf to Raya he also does go long more often than, say Ramsdale did but obviously any mistake looks awful

There is an old saying in football- if there is a bit of the pitch with loads of blokes in it, there must be another bit with no blokes in it.

Not a great saying, and you can see why it didn't catch on

Big Ron? Wait no blatant racism in it.

I just remember the days when at a goal kick all 20 outfield players were stationed on side of the pitch in a space of about a square metre - and Johnny Lukic would still kick it straight into touch
